💡 From Concept to Airwaves

The dream started simply: create a station where every song hits, the presenters are the real deal, and local people feel heard. But like all good things, getting here took work. Lots of it.

From months of red tape to unbelievable technical setbacks, the road to launch was anything but smooth. But the vision never changed — and the team behind it never gave up.

At the heart of it all were our founding partners: Alan Nield, Tony Taylor, and Simon Walker. Friends, broadcasters, and business minds with decades of experience, they built Nifty UK from the ground up — and pulled together a presenter lineup bursting with raw talent and heart.

🎬 Enter: Producer Tim

Things levelled up when Producer Tim Shaw — best known as the brains behind Car SOS — helped the journey. A self-confessed audio obsessive with sky-high standards and an eye for what cuts through, Tim didn’t just add flair — he added fire.

From imaging to identity, Tim helped shape the sound of Nifty UK Radio, making sure everything we broadcast sounds world-class. His belief in the project gave it national-level credibility — and the results speak for themselves.

👬 The Bickering Bromance

Tim’s creative partner-in-chaos is none other than Big Al himself — Alan Nield, presenter and co-founder of the station. Long-time friends, Tim and Al share a bond stronger than a jingles package, with Al even appearing on Car SOS in a dressing gown just to support his mate.

They might squabble like an old married couple on-air, but it’s all love underneath. Their banter is electric, and their friendship is the heartbeat of Nifty UK — full of laughs, loyalty, and legendary one-liners.

📡 Broadcasting Begins

With the green light from Ofcom, we launched on December 2nd, 2024, with full DAB coverage across Greater Manchester — thanks to a successful signal upgrade and the pure determination to get the job done right.

From that moment, the response was instant. People didn’t just tune in — they leaned in. Our audience grew, our name spread, and the buzz started building fast.

We’re incredibly proud to call Oldham our home — it’s where our studio lives and where the heart of the station beats loudest. But our reach and relevance go far beyond.

We've had brilliant support from local councils across the region, with real interest in how we can help promote good causes, local events, and regional pride. Businesses have taken notice too — with dozens getting in touch to advertise, collaborate, and grow alongside us.
